Welcome to my new website! 

I am deeply drawn to the transformative power of art.  I engage in and teach the artistic process as a means of self discovery and self development.  In painting with a variety of media or drawing with pencils, pastels, charcoal and crayons, I explore an infinite array of colors that exist between the extremes of darkness and light.  My paintings reveal my love of color: its spirit, character and nuances.    Color dynamic is the principal theme of my creations.

My current paintings are acrylics on canvas and watercolors on paper.  I move my brushes with vigor across the canvas to create the vibrant energy of the acrylics.  The watercolors on paper are soft and subtle, leaving much to the viewer's interpretation.  In these I incorporate "veil painting" - multiple layers of diluted pigment, dried after each application to allow the colors to shine through one another.  The latter is a contemplative process.  Patchworks and geometric design fascinate me.  They provide a playful pathway into color relationships, particularly through the theme of contraction and expansion.

The sky, the Pacific Ocean and my garden provide endless inspiration for my Colors for the Soul.

In my classes I assist the artist within each participant to find expression. It is a delight to watch my students take risks and discover new possibilities in the process. With encouragement and a few simple techniques, they can practice, experiment and view the world and themselves with new eyes.
